What is Risk Appetite?— how the mode buttons work
Risk Appetite describes how institutional money is currently flowing across the S&P 500 — into risk assets, out of them, or both at once. The mode buttons above are interactive: click one to re-weight the 11-sector matrix below. The underlying data never changes — only the emphasis does.
- Risk-On — accumulation dominates: green highlights the rotation leaders (buy-setup sectors).
- Risk-Off — distribution dominates: red highlights the laggards (money flowing out).
- Mixed — both forces are active; leaders and laggards are highlighted together, matching today's reading.
Clicking a sector card also expands its industries ranked by Money Flow Index — a bar chart for each GICS industry inside the sector.
Sector Money Flow Orb
What do the orbs mean?— colour = pressure state, size = conviction
Orb colour = today's pressure state.Green = accumulation (money flow ≥ 60 and relative strength positive). Red = distribution (money flow ≤ 40 and relative strength negative). Grey = neutral — neither condition holds.
Orb size = conviction. A weighted blend scaled 0–1: 50% how far money flow sits from neutral (50), 30% the strength of relative strength, 20% how unusual volume is. Big orb = strong signal; small orb = lukewarm.
